LAST LIGHT
The sun had already disappeared below the horizon, but the day wasn’t finished. Taken on Gaskin Lake in the Boundary Waters, this photograph captures those few quiet minutes when daylight seems reluctant to leave. A blanket of clouds stretched across the sky, catching what remained of the sun and turning shades of pink and red. Along the horizon, the color intensified into a brilliant band of crimson, silhouetting the distant tree line against the fading sky.
Below, Gaskin Lake held a reflection of it all. For a few minutes, the color above and the color below seemed to meet at the dark line of the forest. The landscape itself had nearly disappeared, leaving only the silhouettes of trees suspended between two skies.
