remains of october
Pink leaves brighten the autumn forest near Iron River, Wisconsin, while the blurred figure of a girl drifts through the scene like a half-remembered moment. I made this photograph near a place I often visited in my younger years—a familiar landscape that brings those days a little closer.
There is something haunting about returning to places that once held a part of your life. The woods keep changing, yet a bend in the trail or the light between the trees can make the years feel briefly absent. Somewhere between the fall colors and the ghostly figure, this photograph holds that feeling: being here now, with a trace of then.
